New Delhi: Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Thursday firmly rejected reports suggesting a large-scale service outage, stating that all its systems were functioning normally. The cloud computing giant urged users and businesses to depend exclusively on its official AWS Health Dashboard for real-time and accurate updates, warning against misinformation circulating on social media platforms.
Earlier in the day, numerous users in the United States and India reported difficulties accessing services that rely on AWS infrastructure. These complaints, tracked by outage-monitoring website Downdetector, quickly led to speculation online that AWS was experiencing a significant technical disruption. However, the company clarified that the reports were misleading and not reflective of its actual service status.
AWS addressed the issue publicly through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stressing that the outage claims were incorrect. According to the company, an unrelated problem elsewhere on the internet sparked confusion, leading users to mistakenly associate the issue with AWS.
AWS Outage Reports Denied as Company Blames External Internet Issue
Responding directly to the growing concerns, AWS said that its services were operating as expected throughout the day.
“No, that’s false. AWS services are operating normally today, but an event elsewhere on the internet has prompted some inaccurate speculation on social media,” the company said in its statement.
AWS further emphasized that the AWS Health Dashboard remains the only reliable source for checking the operational status of its services across regions. The company advised customers to avoid relying on third-party platforms or unverified social media claims, which can often amplify confusion during unrelated technical incidents.
User Complaints Spike on Down detector in the US and India
Despite AWS’s clarification, data from Down detector showed a noticeable surge in user complaints earlier in the day. Reports peaked around 7 a.m. IST, with more than 4,300 users in the United States flagging problems related to AWS-linked services.
In India, the scale of reports was significantly smaller, ranging between 25 and 30 complaints. However, users from major cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, and New Delhi reported intermittent disruptions, adding to the perception of a broader issue.
While Downdetector aggregates user-submitted reports, it does not independently verify outages, which can sometimes result in spikes driven by localized or external issues rather than actual service failures.
AWS Outage Reports Denied Amid Gaming Platform Access Issues
Several users in North America and other regions reported difficulty accessing online gaming platforms, many of which depend on cloud-based infrastructure. According to user reports, titles operated by Epic Games experienced temporary access issues.
Popular games such as Fortnite, Rocket League, and ARC Raiders were cited by users as being unavailable, fueling assumptions of an AWS-related outage. AWS, however, maintained that its systems were not responsible for the disruptions and pointed to external factors affecting connectivity.
Because many global digital platforms rely on shared cloud infrastructure, unrelated network issues can appear widespread, often leading users to associate problems with major providers like AWS.
Rising Frequency of Cloud Disruption Concerns Raises User Anxiety
In recent months, users have become increasingly sensitive to reports of cloud service disruptions, particularly involving large-scale providers like AWS. As more digital platforms depend on shared cloud infrastructure, even minor or external technical issues can quickly escalate into widespread concern.
Industry experts note that while actual outages do occur, misinformation and rapid speculation on social media often contribute to panic before official confirmations are available. AWS reiterated that transparency through its Health Dashboard remains central to keeping customers informed and minimizing unnecessary alarm.
