Cuttack: The singer Humane Sagar death case saw a significant legal development as the Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection to singer Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satpathy. The court directed the Commissionerate Police not to take any coercive action against the two accused until the next date of hearing.
The interim relief came after the High Court heard the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satpathy in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of popular Odia singer Humane Sagar.
Humane Sagar Death Case: Court Seeks Case Diary
During the hearing, the High Court instructed the State Government to submit the complete case diary related to the investigation. The court also ordered that Sephali Suna, the mother of the deceased singer, be formally added as a party to the case.
The bench observed that all concerned parties must be heard before any further action is taken, underlining the importance of procedural fairness in the matter.
Police Restrained From Taking Action
As part of the interim order, the court directed the Commissionerate Police not to initiate any action against Arpita Choudhury and Somesh Satpathy until further orders. The relief provides temporary legal protection to the petitioners while the court examines the merits of their anticipatory bail plea.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for February 16, when the court is expected to review the case diary and hear arguments from all sides.
Background of the Humane Sagar Death Case
The case stems from a complaint filed on December 21 at the Markatnagar Police Station by Sephali Suna. In her complaint, she alleged that Arpita Choudhury, Somesh Satpathy, and seven other individuals were responsible for her son’s death.

Following the registration of the complaint, Arpita and Somesh approached the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail, citing apprehension of arrest. The court’s interim order now provides them protection as the legal proceedings continue.
