RAIRAANGPUR: The PM Modi Odisha Visit has brought national attention to Mayurbhanj district as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu participated in a major state government event marking two years of the BJP-led administration in Odisha. The visit was accompanied by the launch and foundation stone laying of projects valued at more than Rs 47,600 crore, aimed at accelerating economic growth and infrastructure development across the state.
The large-scale investment package covers sectors including energy, transport, industrial infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, drinking water and irrigation. Government officials believe these projects will create employment opportunities while strengthening Odisha’s long-term growth prospects.
PM Modi Odisha Visit Highlights Major Development Agenda
After arriving in Mayurbhanj, Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu visited Pahadpur, the President’s in-laws’ village. The dignitaries offered prayers at Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera sacred groves and visited local educational and skill development institutions.
Later, they attended a public programme in Rairangpur under the theme “Vikas ra Dhara, Odisha Sara,” celebrating two years of the Odisha government. The event served as a platform to showcase ongoing development efforts and unveil new projects across multiple districts.
Among the most significant announcements were the foundation stones for the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pumped Storage Project and the Stage-II expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station, which will add two units of 660 MW each. These projects are expected to strengthen Odisha’s power generation capacity and support future industrial growth.
Why the PM Modi Odisha Visit Matters for the State
The projects unveiled during the visit extend beyond immediate infrastructure creation. Improved road connectivity, irrigation networks and energy supply could attract fresh investments and support industrial expansion in both urban and rural regions.
Key projects include a compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar, a new bridge over the Kathajodi river linking Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, national highway upgrades, the Kusumdihi Megalift Irrigation Project, and new educational facilities in Rairangpur.
Several completed projects were also inaugurated, including a 300-bed District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh, 24 Atal Bus Stands, nine Automated Testing Stations, the Nayagarh Town Bypass, railway multi-tracking projects, a Sports Complex and a Tribal Research Centre.
The second-order impact of these investments could be substantial. Better transport and logistics infrastructure may reduce business costs, stronger healthcare facilities could improve public services, and expanded irrigation projects may boost agricultural productivity. Together, these developments are expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve quality of life and support Odisha’s economic ambitions in the years ahead.
