BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Covid alert has been strengthened after neighbouring Andhra Pradesh reported two suspected Covid-19 deaths in Kadapa. The state government has directed health authorities to increase surveillance in border districts while maintaining that no significant Covid cases have been detected in Odisha.

Public Health Director Dr Rabindranath Mishra said Covid monitoring is continuing across the state, with regular testing being carried out. He assured the public that all recent test reports have returned negative and urged people to remain cautious without creating panic.

Odisha Covid Alert Intensifies Monitoring in Border Districts

The Health Department has instructed Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) in southern districts bordering Andhra Pradesh to strengthen preventive measures.

Districts placed on heightened surveillance include:

  • Ganjam
  • Gajapati
  • Koraput

Health officials have been directed to intensify screening at interstate entry points and ensure immediate testing of individuals showing Covid-like symptoms. Hospitals have also been asked to keep isolation beds and necessary treatment facilities ready to respond quickly if required.

Rath Yatra Preparations Include Covid Surveillance

The alert assumes greater significance as Odisha prepares for the annual Rath Yatra, which is expected to attract lakhs of devotees from across the country.

Officials said anyone displaying Covid-like symptoms during the festival will undergo testing and receive treatment in accordance with standard public health protocols. The government is aiming to minimise health risks while ensuring the smooth conduct of the religious event.

Health authorities have appealed to the public to continue following basic Covid safety measures, including:
