New Delhi: India has joined the United States and 24 other countries in an international 6G initiative aimed at shaping the development of next-generation telecommunications networks.

The US Department of Commerce announced the development in a social media post, saying the participating countries would work towards ensuring that future networks reflect shared security interests, strengthen competitiveness and promote innovation.

The development came after Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada met US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on the sidelines of the G20 Innovation Ministerial.

India 6G Initiative Focuses on Future Networks

During the meeting, India and the US discussed the future of 6G technology and the importance of international cooperation in developing next-generation telecommunications networks.

The international initiative is focused on shaping future network technologies while taking into account security, competitiveness and innovation.

India’s participation adds 6G to the broader areas of technology cooperation between New Delhi and Washington.

India and US Discuss AI, Semiconductors and Data Centres

Prasada and Lutnick also discussed strengthening cooperation in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centres.

Prasada encouraged greater US investment in ISM 2.0 and proposed strengthening the AI technology partnership. He also shared a mechanism for safeguards for artificial intelligence.

The discussions reflect India’s wider efforts to build international technology partnerships across emerging sectors.

Jitin Prasada Leads Indian Delegation at G20 Meeting

Jitin Prasada led the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministerial held on September 1 and 2 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The meeting was hosted by the US Department of Commerce and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

The meeting concluded with the G20 Innovation Ministerial Statement, which highlighted the potential of emerging technologies to support prosperity, productivity and opportunity.

India Reaffirms Focus on Emerging Technologies

India reaffirmed its commitment to developing strategic partnerships in several emerging technology areas.

These include AI, semiconductors, digital public infrastructure (DPI), robotics and other emerging technologies.

The government said these partnerships can create greater opportunities for innovation and economic growth while contributing to an improved quality of life for citizens.
