Bhubaneswar: A 12-hour Odisha bandh is being observed across the state today from 6 AM to 6 PM over alleged errors in school textbooks for Classes 1 to 8.
The shutdown has been called by the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan and Naba Nirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan, which have raised concerns over alleged factual inaccuracies in textbooks and demanded corrective measures.
The organisations have alleged that 1,678 errors were found in the textbooks and have demanded withdrawal of the affected books, distribution of corrected editions and the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
12-Hour Odisha Bandh Over Textbook Errors
The controversy relates to newly published textbooks used by students from Classes 1 to 8. The protesting organisations have argued that the issue involves more than spelling or printing mistakes and includes alleged factual errors.
The textbook issue has generated wider debate in Odisha, with government officials acknowledging errors and corrective measures being undertaken. The government has also started distributing revised textbooks after corrections were made.
Government Begins Distribution of Revised Books
