RBI Data Centre in Odisha Spans 18.55 Acres
The new RBI complex is spread across 18.55 acres at Info Valley-II in Jatni, near Bhubaneswar. The foundation stone for the project was laid by former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 22, 2023.
The facility includes four state-of-the-art data centres designed to meet the central bank’s computing requirements and support mission-critical payment and settlement systems.
According to official information, the data centre has received Tier IV certification from the Uptime Institute, a recognised international benchmark for data centre infrastructure resilience.
The facility is intended to provide a secure, scalable and reliable computing environment for the RBI and the wider banking, financial services and insurance sector.
How the New RBI Facility Will Support Digital Payments
India’s digital financial ecosystem increasingly depends on reliable technology infrastructure to process transactions and maintain essential banking services.
The new data centre will host critical payment and settlement systems alongside other important RBI initiatives. Its infrastructure is designed to improve operational continuity and support the reliability and efficiency of digital financial services.
By expanding its technological capacity, the RBI aims to strengthen the digital foundation supporting India’s growing financial economy. The project is also expected to reinforce the central bank’s capacity to manage sensitive financial information and maintain essential systems.
Cybersecurity Training Institute to Focus on AI and Quantum Computing
The accompanying Cybersecurity Training Institute will provide a dedicated platform for specialised training, research and capability development.
Its focus areas include cybersecurity, enterprise technology and emerging technologies relevant to banking and financial services. Artificial intelligence and quantum computing are among the technologies identified for attention at the institute.
The facility is intended to help develop expertise in protecting financial systems against evolving technological threats and to strengthen the skills required to manage complex digital infrastructure.
Why the Jatni Location Matters
The site at Info Valley-II was selected partly because of its geographical characteristics. Officials said its location away from seismically active zones and high-risk international border areas helps reduce exposure to certain natural and geopolitical risks.
The location near Bhubaneswar also places the project within Odisha’s expanding technology infrastructure landscape.
However, the facility’s wider economic impact will depend on its operational performance, continued investment and the development of specialised technological capabilities.
Odisha Strengthens Its Role in India’s Digital Infrastructure
The inauguration adds an important national financial institution to Odisha’s infrastructure network. The RBI data centre at Jatni is the second such facility of the central bank in India, following the existing centre in Navi Mumbai.
The project combines financial data infrastructure with specialised cybersecurity training, linking the management of critical banking systems with the development of technical expertise.
For Odisha, the facility represents an addition to its technology ecosystem. For the national financial system, it provides additional infrastructure intended to support secure and reliable digital services.
