NSP Login Portal for National NMMSS: Applicants began to submit their applications online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for scholarships for the project year 2023–24, on October 1, 2023. Scholarships are given to deserving students from economically disadvantaged sections under the “National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme,” a program run by the Ministry of Education for students in classes IX through XII.

The national fellowship program aims to lower the dropout rate in Class VIII and encourage students to continue their education in secondary school. For students enrolled in State Government, Government-aided, and local body schools, one lakh new scholarships are given out each year to selected students in Class IX and upon their continuation/renewal in Classes X to XII. The award is worth Rs.12,000 year.

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP), a one-stop hub for scholarship programs offered to students, is where the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) is boarded. The Public Financial Management System (PFMS), using the DBT mode, electronically transfers NMMSS scholarships directly into the bank accounts of chosen students. This is a Central Sector Scheme.

Students whose parental income from all sources is not more than ₹3,50,000 per annum are eligible to avail of the scholarships. The students must have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in the Class VII examination to appear in the selection test for the award of scholarship (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST students).

The scholarship applications undergo two levels of verification on the National Scholarship Portal. The first is at the Institution or School level by the Institute Nodal Officer and at second by the District Nodal Officer.
