Kalbaisakhi: Severe Thunderstorm Alert for Odisha Heavy Rainfall Today

Bhubaneswar: A major Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) storm is expected to move across the state today, bringing with it heavy rain and maybe hailstorms, putting Odisha on high alert. Thirty districts are under a thunderstorm and severe wind alert issued by the Meteorological Department.

Twelve districts are under an orange warning, which indicates the potential for severe weather, and eighteen districts are under a yellow warning, which indicates the need for caution.

Light to moderate rain or Thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of North Odisha and South Interior Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha.

Thunderstorm with lightning and hail with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph very likely to occur at few places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Deogarh.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhargarh, Mayurbhanj. Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangapur.
