PM Modi Arrives in Namibia for Landmark Visit

Published on

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Windhoek, Namibia today, marking the first-ever visit by PM Modi to the southern African nation. This is also only the third Indian Prime Ministerial visit to Namibia, coming nearly three decades after the last such engagement. The visit is part of the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour.

Upon arrival, Prime Minister Modi will be accorded a ceremonial welcome and will engage in high-level delegation talks with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. The discussions are aimed at deepening economic and strategic ties, with a strong focus on sectors of mutual growth and global relevance.

MoUs Expected in Key Sectors

A series of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit, covering a broad spectrum of strategic areas including:

  • Energy security and cooperation
  • Health and pharmaceutical collaboration
  • Education, technology, and capacity building

These agreements are expected to strengthen the bilateral partnership, aligning with India’s broader outreach to the Global South and Africa in particular.

Namibia to Confer Highest Civilian Honour on PM Modi

As a mark of deep diplomatic respect, the Government of Namibia will confer its highest civilian award upon Prime Minister Modi. The honour recognises his efforts in fostering strong India-Africa relations and promoting shared goals in the realms of development, health, and sustainability.

Prime Minister Modi will also pay homage to Namibia’s Founding Father and first President, the late Dr. Sam Nujoma, in a symbolic gesture underscoring India’s respect for Namibia’s freedom struggle and democratic legacy.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to deliver a special address at the Parliament of Namibia. His speech is expected to highlight India’s vision for a fair and inclusive global order, as well as the strategic importance of India-Africa cooperation in global governance, sustainable development, and youth empowerment.

This historic visit is expected to lay the foundation for a new era of India-Namibia relations, while reinforcing India’s leadership in promoting South-South collaboration.
