India Supports Trump-Putin Alaska Summit, Hopes for Ukraine Peace

Published on

India has formally expressed support for the upcoming Trump-Putin Alaska meeting on August 15, 2025, viewing it as a potential breakthrough in ending the Ukraine conflict.

India Welcomes Trump-Putin Alaska Meeting for Possible Ukraine Peace

In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the summit between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin “holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up prospects for peace.” The MEA reaffirmed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance that “this is not an era of war” and pledged India’s readiness to assist in any peace-building efforts.

Trump-Putin Alaska Meeting Faces Resistance from Ukraine’s Zelensky

The Trump-Putin Alaska meeting will be the first US–Russia summit since 2021, when then-President Joe Biden met Putin in Geneva. Trump has indicated that a possible peace plan could involve territorial swaps between Ukraine and Russia, calling the process “nothing easy.”

However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected any arrangement that bypasses Kyiv, warning that excluding Ukraine from talks would result in “dead decisions” and reaffirming that the country will not cede its land to Russia.
