Ex-Pentagon Official Slams Pakistan Nuclear Threat, Calls Asim Munir ‘Osama bin Laden in a Suit’
Washington: A fierce diplomatic storm has erupted after Pakistan Army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir made a shocking Pakistan nuclear threat on US soil. Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin slammed the remarks, calling them dangerous war-mongering and likening Munir to Osama bin Laden.
Speaking reportedly at a meeting in Tampa, Florida, attended by US military officials, Munir warned that if Pakistan “goes down, it would take half the world down” with it. India immediately condemned the statement, accusing Pakistan of its “stock-in-trade” nuclear sabre-rattling and expressing regret such rhetoric came from a friendly nation’s soil.
Former US Official’s Sharp Response
In an interview with ANI, Rubin said, “Pakistan’s threats on American soil are completely unacceptable.” He cautioned that such rhetoric could encourage extremist elements to seize nuclear weapons.
“Americans often see terrorism as a reaction to grievances, but many terrorists are ideologically driven. Asim Munir is Osama bin Laden in a suit,” Rubin stated, warning that Pakistan’s stability and ability to responsibly manage nuclear arms is now in question.
Global Action Demands Against Pakistan
Rubin proposed bold steps, including:
- Initiating a “managed decline” of Pakistan, possibly recognising regions like Balochistan as independent.
- Considering military action in the future to secure Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.
- Removing Pakistan as a major non-NATO ally and from US Central Command.
- Adding Pakistan to the US list of state sponsors of terrorism.
- Declaring Munir persona non grata in the US and banning visas for Pakistani officials until an apology is issued.
High-Stakes Security Concerns
Rubin warned that failure to act could lead to global catastrophe:
“It’s coming near time when other SEAL teams should enter Pakistan to secure its nuclear weapons because the alternative is simply too great to bear.”
As tensions escalate, the Pakistan nuclear threat controversy is likely to fuel renewed debates in Washington over Pakistan’s role as an ally, its nuclear security, and its future place in the global order.
