Ben Stokes can replace MS Dhoni as captain of CSK

Chennai: Ben Stokes can replace MS Dhoni as captain of CSK : Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris sees Chennai Super Kings’ decision to buy England Test captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction as an attempt to find a successor to captain MS Dhoni.

Dhoni, who relinquished the captaincy for the 2022 edition but was forced to take the reins back as the team under Ravindra Jadeja fared miserably, is likely to lead CSK for the last time this season as he bids farewell in front of the home fans. in Chennai.

With the 41 year old four time IPL winning captain set to retire for good soon, CSK are desperate for someone to lead the team and Styris believes Stokes is the man.

In his comments during the post-auction program on Jio Cinema, Styris suggested that Dhoni hand over the captaincy to Stokes straight away.

“I think so, I think he will be the captain. We have seen MS Dhoni trying to pass on the captaincy, not playing cricket regularly between IPL. It is just an opportunity for MS Dhoni to pass the baton. I think so, they will right away. Ben Stokes will be the captain,” said Styris.

Stokes is one of the most sought-after all-rounders in world cricket. He has captaincy experience and has played in the IPL for various teams.

With Dhoni in charge this season, he will also get time to settle in at CSK and be ready to take charge either towards the end of the season or before the next edition of IPL.
