Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid rich tributes to legendary leader Biju Patnaik on his 110th birth anniversary, describing him as the architect of modern Odisha.
Speaking at a state government programme in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said Biju Patnaik was more than a historical figure and remained a powerful symbol of Odia pride and development.
“Biju Babu was an institution and a powerful ideology. Courage, foresight and patriotism defined his life,” the chief minister said.
Vision for a strong and prosperous Odisha
Majhi highlighted Biju Patnaik’s vision of building an industrially strong Odisha while ensuring employment opportunities for the poor and empowering women.
He also emphasised Patnaik’s commitment to strengthening the Panchayati Raj system to drive development in rural areas.
According to the chief minister, fulfilling this vision means building a prosperous and self reliant Odisha.
Focus on grassroots development
Majhi said the state government is working to strengthen rural infrastructure and governance.
Key initiatives include improving:
- Drinking water facilities
- Rural road connectivity
- Electricity supply
- Educational infrastructure
The government has allocated ₹34,166 crore to the Panchayati Raj department in the 2026–27 state budget, the highest ever allocation for the sector.
Industrial growth and investment
The chief minister also highlighted the state’s push toward industrialisation. He said Odisha has attracted investment intentions worth over ₹20 lakh crore in the past 20 months.
According to the government, these investments are expected to generate large scale employment opportunities for youth in the state.
Leaders pay tribute to Biju Babu
Several political leaders attended the birth anniversary event, including Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Ekamra Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethi, and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to Biju Patnaik, remembering his commitment to Odisha’s development.
Meanwhile, Naveen Patnaik, speaking at a memorial meeting at Sankha Bhawan, said the Biju Janata Dal will continue to work toward fulfilling the ideals and vision of Biju Patnaik.

Biju Patnaik remains one of Odisha’s most influential leaders, remembered for his role in shaping the state’s industrial and political landscape.
