The Odisha weather rain forecast indicates a short break from the rising heat as light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in several districts during the weekend. The India Meteorological Department said weather activity may bring temporary relief on March 8 and 9.
However, meteorologists warned that temperatures are unlikely to drop significantly during this period.
Cyclonic circulation driving weather changes
According to Manorama Mohanty, an upper air cyclonic circulation currently lies over north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.
Under its influence, many areas could witness rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph.
Districts likely to receive rainfall
On March 8, rainfall is expected in parts of:
- Jharsuguda
- Sundargarh
- Keonjhar
- Mayurbhanj
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Kendrapara
- Jagatsinghpur
On March 9, moderate rainfall may occur in parts of north Odisha and districts including:
- Puri
- Khurda
- Nayagarh
- Nuapada
- Balangir
- Sonepur
- Boudh
Fog expected in coastal districts
Before the rain activity begins, meteorologists have predicted shallow to moderate fog in isolated pockets on March 6.
Districts likely to experience fog include:
- Balasore
- Bhadrak
- Jagatsinghpur
- Kendrapara
- Cuttack
- Khurda
Temperatures remain high across Odisha
Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures across the state remain elevated.
Recent maximum temperatures recorded:
- Jharsuguda: 39.6°C
- Titilagarh: 37.5°C
- Gopalpur: 37.1°C
- Dhenkanal: 37.1°C
In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar recorded 36.4°C, while Cuttack registered 34.6°C.
Heat likely to intensify again
Meteorological officials said the temporary relief may not last long. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise again by 2 to 3°C after five days, signalling the return of stronger summer heat.
