‘Coolie’ Early Reviews Shock Fans: Rajinikanth’s 50-Year Celebration Film Called ‘A Letdown’ Overseas

Published on

The much-awaited Tamil film Coolie has hit theaters overseas ahead of its India release, but Coolie early review reports suggest mixed reactions from fans abroad. While Chennai audiences must wait until 9:00 pm for Thalaivar’s grand appearance, US fans saw the movie at 6:30 pm EST (4:00 am IST). The film marks Rajinikanth’s 171st movie and celebrates his remarkable 50 years in cinema.

Overseas Audiences Criticize Monotonous Storytelling

Social media buzz indicates disappointment, with viewers calling the film’s storytelling ‘monotonous’ and saying it ‘falls short of expectations.’ Despite a star-studded ensemble, the director struggles to give each character distinct depth. Rajinikanth’s de-aged flashback sequences and trademark charisma win praise, but they fail to completely lift the film from its sluggish pacing.

Performances, Action & Music Receive Mixed Feedback

While Nagarjuna shines as gangster Simon and Soubin Shahir delivers as Dayal, the first half of Coolie feels predictable and slow — a surprise given Lokesh Kanagaraj’s reputation for gripping narratives. The final 20 minutes, however, deliver a spectacular climax filled with explosive action and high drama, hallmarks of the director’s style.

Anirudh Ravichander’s music is being called ‘average,’ not meeting the sky-high expectations from the composer. Still, fans in India are expected to turn Coolie’s release into a grand celebration for Rajinikanth’s golden jubilee in cinema.
