Dhenkanal: Road Accident Takes Lives of Three Workmen

DHENKANAL: On Tuesday, as road repair work was being done in Rekula village, which is located under Kamakshyanagar police in the Dhenkanal district, three people were killed and one injured in a traffic accident, according to police.

Around one in the morning, four people, including three workmen, were crushed when a speeding truck struck a stationary road roller on the Dhenkanal-Kamakshyanagar route.

Khirod Sahu, a PWD contractual worker, has been identified as one of the deceased; the identities of the other two were still to be determined.

According to the police, workmen in Rekula village were mending the PWD road. The workers were immediately crushed as the speeding truck from the Dhenkanal side crashed into the stationary roller.

Sahu was pronounced dead when other employees and the work supervisor sent the injured to Kamakshyanagar Hospital. One of the two others passed away while receiving care at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, and the other one at Dhenkanal Hospital.

Locals demanded compensation and speed brakes on the Dhenkanal-Kamakshyanagar road when the accident news spread.

Following the police’s intervention, the roadblock was removed.According to Kamakshyanagar SDPO Gyan Ranjan Mishra, no formal complaint has been filed with the police as of yet.

The hywa’s driver is running away. He added that additional inquiry is underway and that the identities of two other people are being determined.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, meantime, conveyed his sorrow over the terrible accident and promised free medical care for the injured as well as ex-gratia payments of Rs 4 lakh apiece to the relatives of the deceased. He hoped he recovered quickly.
