The flood crisis in Assam continues to deepen, affecting nearly 4 lakh people across 17 districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 758 villages under 54 revenue circles are inundated, and more than 3,500 hectares of crop area have been severely damaged.

Ten Casualties Reported So Far

The death toll due to floods and landslides in the state has risen to 10. However, no new casualties have been reported in the past 24 hours.

Relief Camps and Rescue Operations

The state government has established 52 relief camps and 103 relief distribution centres to support those displaced by the flood. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations in affected areas.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Assesses On-Ground Situation

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Lakhimpur district, particularly Naoboicha, to interact with flood victims and oversee relief work. He assured residents of continued government support and reviewed the situation with officials from NEEPCO’s Ranganadi Power Plant. The flooding has worsened following the release of water from a dam in Arunachal Pradesh.

Infrastructure Damage and Rain Forecast

Floodwaters have caused extensive damage to embankments, roads, bridges, and public infrastructure. The Brahmaputra, along with its tributaries Dhansiri and Kopili, is flowing above the danger mark. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts moderate rainfall to continue across most parts of Assam, potentially worsening the situation.
