Saraswati Puja, also known as Basant Panchami, is a Hindu festival celebrated to honour Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music, art, happy and wisdom. Saraswati Puja is observed on the fifth day of the bright half of the lunar month of Magha, which falls in late January or early February each year.
Devotees perform puja to Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and music, on this day. They invoke wisdom and knowledge in their prayers. People typically make small Saraswati idols and decorate them with flowers, fruits, and sweets. In addition, people recite mantras and perform aarti in front of the idols. People also wear yellow, the colour of knowledge, and pray to the goddess.
Some people fast on this day and chant the Saraswati stotra to seek the goddess’ blessings. On this day, many educational institutions hold special pujas and cultural programmes.
