The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert in India for several states and regions till September 16. Multiple parts of the country, including the Northeast, East, Central, West and Peninsular India, are expected to witness heavy to very heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next few days. The forecast highlights a particularly intense spell over the Northeastern states and Maharashtra.
Heavy Rainfall Alert in India for Northeast States
According to IMD, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely at many places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during September 10–16.
Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura between September 12–16, while Assam & Meghalaya may see very heavy showers from September 13–16.
East & Central India to Witness Widespread Showers
Rainfall activity will continue over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, East & West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.
- Isolated heavy rain is likely over Odisha on September 11–12, with very heavy falls on September 11.
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim will also see very heavy rain on September 10 & 13.
Maharashtra and West India to See Rising Rainfall
The IMD has forecast increasing rainfall activity in Maharashtra between September 13–16.
- Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Konkan & Goa are expected to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during this period.
- Marathwada is likely to witness intense showers on September 13, while Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa will see very heavy rainfall on September 14.
- Gujarat region may also experience heavy rain between September 14–16.
South Peninsular India to Experience Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds
- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema are forecast to receive light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rainfall till September 14.
- Gusty surface winds of 30–40 kmph are expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema for the next five days.
