Bhubaneswar: Hockey World Cup 2023: India loses to New Zealand, out of quarter-final from the Hockey World Cup 2023. India lost to New Zealand in a penalty shootout in the cross-over match. As a result, India’s hopes of playing in the quarter-finals have been dashed.

Notably, India performed well from the start in this match played at Kalinga Stadium. Neither team scored in the first quarter. Lalit Upadhyay scored India’s first goal in the second quarter to give the team a 1-0 lead. Within 3 minutes, India scored another goal through the penalty. India was leading by 2-0.

New Zealand scored the first goal in the 28th minute of the match. India dominated New Zealand in the third quarter as well. Barun Kumar scored another goal for India in the 40th minute to give the team a 3-1 lead. But New Zealand scored through the penalty. Both teams scored 3-3.
After that, the help of a Penalty Shootout was taken. India scored 4 goals while New Zealand managed to score 5. India had to lose the match.
