India Dominate U23 Asian Wrestling Championships with Historic Team Titles

India’s young wrestlers showcased their dominance at the Under-23 Asian Wrestling Championships 2025, capping off a stellar campaign with multiple individual golds and team triumphs in both men’s and women’s freestyle categories.

On the concluding day of the tournament in Vung Tau, India bagged six medals in the men’s freestyle category. The gold medallists included:

  • Nikhil
  • Sujeet
  • Jaideep
  • Chander Mohan
  • Sachin

These victories helped India top the men’s freestyle team rankings, highlighting the depth and talent in the country’s wrestling pipeline.

Indian women delivered a historic sweep, earning medals in all 10 weight categories and winning the team title in women’s freestyle. Gold medallists included:

  • Priyanshi Prajapat (50kg)
  • Reena (55kg)
  • Shrishti (68kg)
  • Priya (76kg)

In addition to four golds, Indian women secured five silver medals and one bronze, showing all-round excellence across divisions.

This double team championship victory marks a turning point in Indian wrestling, especially at the under-23 level, showcasing the success of grassroots development, coaching infrastructure, and national training programs.

The impressive haul of medals also boosts India’s prospects for future global events like the World Championships and Olympics, where many of these young stars could emerge as medal contenders.
