MEA Successfully Launches Passport Seva Programme V2.0, Global PSP V2.0, and e-Passport

Published on

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced the successful rollout of the Passport Seva Programme V2.0, the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0), and the e-Passport initiative, marking a major digital leap in India’s passport services both domestically and abroad.

Passport Seva Programme V2.0 to Enhance Efficiency and Transparency

Implemented across all 37 Passport Offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) on May 26, 2025, the Passport Seva Programme V2.0 introduces a digitally integrated system connecting all stakeholders in the passport issuance process. The upgraded platform focuses on improving efficiency, transparency, and user convenience through advanced technology.

With AI-powered chat and voice bots, applicants can now receive real-time assistance during form submission or grievance redressal. The redesigned website and mobile app simplify the process further, offering auto-filled forms, easy document uploads, and online payments via UPI and QR codes.

Global Passport Seva Programme V2.0 for Indians Abroad

Following the domestic rollout, the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0) was launched across Indian Embassies and Consulates worldwide on October 28, 2025. This initiative ensures seamless passport and consular services for Indians living abroad, aligning with the government’s vision of global connectivity and digital governance.

e-Passport: A Step Towards Smarter and Safer Travel

The e-Passport introduces a hybrid model featuring an embedded RFID chip and antenna that store the holder’s biometric and personal data securely in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. This new generation of passports ensures enhanced security, faster authentication, and fraud prevention. All new passports issued will be e-Passports, while existing ones will remain valid until expiry.

Government’s Push for Ease of Living through Technology

The MEA reaffirmed its commitment to citizen safety, convenience, and international standards through these digital reforms. The launch of Passport Seva Programme V2.0, GPSP V2.0, and the e-Passport reflects the government’s broader goal of using technology to enhance governance and improve the Ease of Living for Indian citizens worldwide.
