NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams Returned to Earth following a Nine-month Mission in space

Published on

Astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore have successfully returned to Earth after an unanticipated stay of over nine months at the International Space Station (ISS). They splashed down off the coast of Florida early Wednesday morning.

A SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, which also carried American Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov, re-entered the atmosphere before deploying parachutes for a safe landing at 3:27 am IST.

The two astronauts initially traveled to the orbital laboratory in June of the previous year, intending to undertake a brief roundtrip to conduct tests on Boeing’s Starliner during its inaugural crewed mission. However, the spacecraft encountered propulsion issues and was subsequently deemed unfit for the return journey, leading to its return without crew.
