NDA to Announce Vice President Candidate on August 12; PM Modi, Nadda to Decide
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to announce its Vice Presidential nominee on August 12, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda leading the decision-making process. This comes amid rising anticipation ahead of the 2025 Vice Presidential election, following Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that the top leadership will finalize the candidate, and preparations are underway to ensure smooth coordination among alliance MPs during the voting process.

A strategic meeting of NDA floor leaders was held recently, attended by senior leaders including:
- JP Nadda
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh
The discussions focused not just on finalizing the NDA Vice Presidential candidate 2025, but also on ensuring clarity in voting procedures given the secret ballot format. This is to prevent invalid votes, as the NDA has faced technical setbacks in past parliamentary votes.

Vice President Dhankhar’s Resignation Sparks Speculation
The Vice Presidential election was triggered by the sudden resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, who cited health reasons. However, opposition leaders have raised concerns over the real reasons behind his departure.
Congress veteran Jairam Ramesh hinted at deeper issues, stating that Dhankhar had spoken with him just two hours before the resignation without showing any signs of distress. The timing and abrupt nature of the resignation have added fuel to political speculation.
Eknath Shinde Extends Full Support to NDA
In a significant political boost, Maharashtra Deputy CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde pledged unconditional support to the NDA for the upcoming Vice Presidential election. His backing further strengthens the NDA’s parliamentary numbers and unity as the alliance seeks a smooth transition.
