Odisha CM Announces ₹30L Aid For Forest Guard Killed By Poachers

Published on

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of forest guard Prahlad Pradhan, who was shot and killed by poachers while on patrol in the Rajmohanpur forest under the Hindol Range in Dhenkanal district on Friday night.

The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to Pradhan’s family and announced a compensation of ₹30 lakh in recognition of his service.

Pradhan, 37, was among a 13-member forest patrol team when the attack occurred. He sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Angul, where doctors pronounced him dead. The incident has intensified concerns over the safety of forest officials working to curb illegal poaching in the state.

In response, the Chief Minister has instructed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) to visit the location and ensure a detailed investigation is carried out. Police have since detained four suspects and recovered firearms from them. Interrogations are ongoing to gather more information about their involvement in poaching.

Several other suspects managed to escape the scene, and efforts are in progress to trace and arrest them.
