Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured full medical and logistical support to the minor girl from Balanga in Puri district who suffered 70% burn injuries after being set on fire by unidentified assailants. The girl, initially treated at Pipili Community Health Centre and AIIMS Bhubaneswar, has now been airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced care.
CM Majhi Expresses Deep Sorrow
Posting on social media platform X, CM Majhi expressed his grief over the incident and emphasized the government’s commitment to the victim’s recovery.
“I am deeply saddened by the incident that took place in Balanga, Puri district. The victim has been airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for the best possible treatment. The state government will ensure all necessary facilities for her. I personally pray to Lord Jagannath for her speedy recovery,” he wrote.
Attack Near River Embankment
The tragic attack took place on July 19, when the girl was reportedly assaulted near a river embankment. The perpetrators allegedly poured petrol and kerosene on her before setting her ablaze. Despite her critical condition, she managed to reach a nearby house, where locals promptly helped her and rushed her to a nearby health center.
SIT Formed for Fast-Tracked Investigation
In response to public outrage and growing demand for justice, the Odisha Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. The SIT has been directed to fast-track the investigation and identify the culprits at the earliest. Scientific teams, including K9 units, have inspected the crime scene. The inquiry is being closely monitored by senior police officials.
Widespread Outrage Across the State
The shocking incident has triggered statewide condemnation and demands for swift justice. Both civil society groups and political parties have voiced concern over rising crimes against women and minors, urging immediate action and stronger safety measures.
