Odisha CM Orders Continued Diarrhoea Protocols Till Dusshera

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the Odisha Health Department to continue implementing health protocols in diarrhoea-prone areas across the state till the Dusshera festival, despite a decline in the number of new cases.

3,892 Affected, 13 Deaths Reported Across Six Districts

A total of 3,892 cases of diarrhoea and cholera have been reported in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar districts. Thirteen people have died due to the outbreak. However, the situation is now under control, with 3,543 patients recovered and 254 still under treatment.

CM Calls for Vigilance and Preventive Measures

The CM cautioned officials against complacency and emphasized that preventive protocols must continue in all vulnerable areas until Dusshera. He stressed the importance of maintaining coordinated healthcare services from primary health centers to medical colleges.

Preventive Measures in Schools and Rural Areas

Majhi was informed that water purification efforts are ongoing in educational institutions. He instructed that schools must strictly follow preventive protocols to ensure no child falls ill. Special attention must be given to tube well purification and drinking water testing in rural and vulnerable areas, the official statement said.

Street Food Safety and Area Sanitation

Majhi also ordered inspections of food items sold by street vendors and directed officials to take immediate action to purify and sanitize those areas to prevent contamination and further spread of disease.

Public Awareness Campaign Intensified

The state government has launched an aggressive public awareness campaign through the Information-Education-Communication (IEC) initiative. The Mission Shakti Department, along with ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, and Women SHG members, is actively involved in spreading awareness about diarrhoea prevention at the grassroots level.
