BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha flood update indicates that the state government has stepped up evacuation and relief operations as floods triggered by continuous rainfall continue to impact several districts. Officials said more than one lakh people have been affected, with authorities shifting thousands of residents from vulnerable locations to safer places as water levels in major rivers continue to rise.

The administration has intensified monitoring in northern Odisha, where heavy rainfall caused by a deep depression has increased the risk of flooding and inundation.

Odisha Flood Update, Evacuation Drive Intensified

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari reviewed the flood situation and said the next 24 hours would be critical, particularly for Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts.

According to the government, rising river levels following persistent heavy rainfall have prompted precautionary evacuations from low-lying and flood-prone areas. Rescue teams and local authorities have been deployed to ensure residents are moved to safer locations before conditions worsen.

Officials said 23,673 people have already been evacuated and accommodated in safer places as part of the ongoing disaster response.

Four Districts Report Widespread Flood Impact

The floods have affected people in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Jajpur, with overflowing rivers and waterlogging disrupting normal life in several areas.

The state administration is closely monitoring river levels and weather conditions while coordinating relief and rescue operations. District officials have been instructed to remain prepared for further evacuations if rainfall continues and floodwaters rise.

Odisha Flood Update Keeps Authorities on High Alert

The Odisha government has urged residents in vulnerable areas to cooperate with evacuation teams and follow official advisories. With weather conditions expected to remain challenging, authorities are continuing round-the-clock surveillance while mobilising relief measures to minimise the impact on affected communities.
