NEW DELHI: The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is set to begin a new phase of financial support for women after the Delhi Cabinet approved the scheme’s operational guidelines. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the online application portal will be launched on August 1, allowing eligible women to apply for ₹2,500 per month under the government’s flagship welfare programme.

Backed by a budget allocation of ₹5,110 crore for 2026-27, the scheme is expected to benefit over 17 lakh women and aims to strengthen financial security while encouraging long-term savings.

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Eligibility and Application Process

Applications will be accepted exclusively through the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Portal, with scrutiny and approval carried out through a transparent district-level system.

Women will be eligible if they:

  • Are between 21 and 60 years of age.
  • Have an annual family income of up to ₹2.5 lakh.
  • Are not receiving benefits under any other government welfare scheme.

However, the scheme excludes:

  • Income tax payers.
  • GST return filers.
  • Women with more than three living children.
  • Applicants with a criminal record.
  • Families with members employed by the Central Government, state governments, government organisations or public sector undertakings (PSUs).
  • Households consuming more than 2,400 units of electricity annually.
  • Households owning a four-wheeler.

Officials said the scheme will initially remain in force for three years, after which it may be extended or modified based on the government’s assessment.

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Offers Two Payment Options

Beneficiaries will have the flexibility to choose how they receive the monthly financial assistance.

Under the first option:

  • ₹1,500 will be deposited into a Recurring Deposit (RD) or Fixed Deposit (FD).
  • ₹1,000 will be credited to a CBDC Digital Rupee Wallet, which can be used only for government-approved goods and services.

Alternatively, beneficiaries may opt to have the entire ₹2,500 deposited into an RD or FD, encouraging long-term savings and financial stability.

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Aims to Strengthen Women’s Financial Security

The Delhi Government said the scheme has been designed to improve economic independence among women while promoting responsible savings and digital financial inclusion. With online applications opening on August 1, eligible women are expected to begin registering through the official portal as the government rolls out one of its largest social welfare initiatives.
