Odisha Vigilance Nabs Junior Clerk and Associate Red-Handed Taking Bribe in Khordha

Published on

The Odisha Vigilance Department today arrested Sukanta Kumar Singh, Junior Clerk at the Balipatna Sub-Registrar’s Office, and his associate Mahendra Sahu, a private individual, while accepting a bribe of ₹2,500 from a complainant.

₹5,000 Bribe Demanded for Registered Trust Deed

According to officials, the duo had demanded ₹5,000 in total from a functionary of a Trust Board in exchange for handing over a registered trust deed. Singh had already taken ₹1,500 as the first instalment on July 11, and was now demanding the remaining ₹2,500.

Left with no choice, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance, which organized a trap operation. The officials successfully caught Singh and Sahu red-handed while accepting the bribe. The entire amount has been recovered and seized.

Further Investigation Underway

After the arrest, vigilance officials launched search operations at two locations linked to Sukanta Kumar Singh to probe disproportionate assets (DA).

A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 15 dated 15.07.2025, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

The investigation is ongoing against both the government employee and the private associate.
