Pakistan’s drones in Operation Sindoor inflicted no damage, most neutralised: CDS Chauhan

Published on

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan stated on Wednesday, July 16, that Pakistan’s use of unarmed drones and loitering munitions during Operation Sindoor on May 10 failed to cause any damage to Indian military or civilian infrastructure. He confirmed that most of these aerial threats were neutralised using a mix of kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures, and in several instances, the drones were recovered nearly intact.

Indigenous Defence Systems Prove Effective

Speaking at a workshop on UAV and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) in New Delhi, General Chauhan praised India’s successful deployment of indigenous defence technologies during the operation. He highlighted the critical role of home-grown weapon systems in countering new-age warfare tactics.

Need for Futuristic Weaponry

“You can’t win today’s warfare with yesterday’s weapon systems. Today’s warfare has to be fought with tomorrow’s technology,” General Chauhan emphasized, stressing the urgent need to modernise the Indian Armed Forces and accelerate technological indigenisation in defence.

Operation Sindoor: India’s Precision Response

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, perpetrated by Pakistan-based and backed terrorists. In retaliation, India carried out precision airstrikes targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes focused on key operational hubs of Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, with confirmed targets in Bahawalpur and Muridke.

Pakistan’s Persistent Hostile Tactics

Despite the failed drone attacks and India’s firm military response, Pakistan continued its aggressive posture, sticking to its long-standing strategy of using proxy terrorist groups to destabilise the region. General Chauhan underscored the need to stay ahead of such evolving threats through technological superiority and strategic preparedness.
