Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Diwali 2025 in the company of Indian Navy personnel onboard INS Vikrant, the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, stationed off the coast of Goa. In a discreetly planned visit, PM Modi departed from Delhi on Sunday evening and reached INS Vikrant early Monday morning to celebrate the festival of lights with the nation’s defenders at sea.

During his visit, the Prime Minister witnessed an impressive Air Power Demo on the flight deck as MiG 29K fighter jets performed take-offs and landings on the short runway, both in daylight and under the night sky. Sharing a video of the event on X, PM Modi wrote, “Highlights from INS Vikrant, including the Air Power Demo, a vibrant cultural programme and more…” The event showcased India’s growing naval strength and the operational excellence of the Navy.
Cultural Programme and Interaction with Naval Families
PM Modi also attended a vibrant cultural programme where naval officers and sailors performed patriotic songs, including one dedicated to the success of the Indian Armed Forces in Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister joined the sailors and their families for the traditional “Bara Khana” dinner, sharing festive warmth and camaraderie.
Morning Yoga and Address to Navy Personnel
The next morning, PM Modi participated in a yoga session on the deck of INS Vikrant, embracing holistic wellness even during his Diwali visit. He later witnessed a spectacular Steampast and Flypast before delivering an inspiring address to the Navy personnel. During his speech, he described the Indian Armed Forces as “his family,” continuing his 11-year tradition of celebrating Diwali with soldiers.
PM Modi’s Message of Gratitude and Pride
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, PM Modi said, “It has become a habit of mine to celebrate Diwali with my family, and that’s why every year I come to celebrate Diwali with my family.” Referring to the powerful imagery of the sea and the ship, he added, “Today, on one side, I have infinite horizons, infinite sky, and on the other side, I have this giant INS Vikrant embodying infinite powers. The glow of the sun’s rays on the ocean’s waters is like the Diwali lamps lit by brave soldiers.”
PM Modi’s Diwali celebration aboard INS Vikrant not only honored the courage of India’s Navy but also reinforced the spirit of unity, duty, and pride that defines the nation’s armed forces.
