PM Modi Highlights Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Vision in Independence Day Address

India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the national ceremony from the Red Fort in New Delhi after hoisting the National Flag. Addressing the nation, the Prime Minister described Independence Day as a festival of hope and aspirations, symbolising the determination of 140 crore citizens and the pride in the country’s collective achievements.

Mr. Modi said that India continues to strengthen its spirit of unity and noted that for 75 years the Constitution of India has served as a guiding light. He also recalled the 125th anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that the abrogation of Article 370 fulfilled his vision of “One Nation, One Constitution.”

The Prime Minister spoke of recent natural disasters such as landslides and cloudbursts, stressing that both the State and Central Governments are working together tirelessly on rescue and rehabilitation operations.

After his arrival at the Red Fort, Mr. Modi received the Guard of Honour, and flower petals were showered as the National Flag was hoisted by two Mi-17 helicopters—one carrying the national flag and the other a flag depicting Operation Sindoor. Earlier he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Mr. Modi said the government is fully committed to building a self-reliant and developed nation, stressing that the foundation of Viksit Bharat rests on Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He emphasised that India is building modern ecosystems across every sector and urged young scientists, professionals, and engineers to develop “Made in India” fighter jet engines.

He also highlighted rapid developments in India’s semiconductor industry, stating that six semiconductor units are currently being built and four more have received approval. By the end of this year, India will begin supplying its own semiconductor chips to the market.

In the energy sector, the Prime Minister focused on achieving self-sufficiency, pointing out that solar power generation has increased thirty-fold in the last eleven years. He added that ten new nuclear reactors are under rapid construction and that the government plans to increase nuclear energy capacity more than tenfold by 2047.

Guiding Principles of the “Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision”

Prime Minister Modi emphasised that Viksit Bharat can be achieved only through Aatmanirbhar Bharat, encouraging young scientists, engineers and startups to build modern ecosystems and reduce dependence on foreign technologies.

Mr. Modi also announced a new Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana with an outlay of ₹1 lakh crore. Under the scheme, youth who obtain their first job in the private sector will be given ₹15,000 by the government, creating employment for 3.5 crore young Indians.

The Prime Minister praised recent achievements in the space sector, mentioning Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s return from the International Space Station and upcoming preparations for both the Gaganyaan mission and India’s own space station. He noted that over 300 startups are currently working in the space sector.

The Prime Minister further announced that the next generation of GST reforms will be introduced during Diwali, pledging a significant reduction in the tax burden, especially for small industries and MSMEs.

He said the country will launch Mission Sudarshan Chakra to develop a powerful protection system to defend against any external threat, with a goal of expanding the national security shield by 2035.

Saluting the contribution of RSS volunteers over the last 100 years, Mr. Modi said their dedication to nation building deserves recognition. He also warned of demographic changes posing new challenges and announced the establishment of a High-Powered Demography Mission to address potential threats systematically.

Mr. Modi concluded by expressing confidence that with determination, hard work, self-reliance, and the mantra of Swadeshi, India will become a prosperous and developed nation.

Major announcements such as semiconductor production, self-reliance in energy, the Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana and the next-generation GST reforms were positioned as core pillars of this long-term vision to build a resilient and prosperous India.
