New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the newly built Kartavya Bhawan – 1, 2, and 3 on August 6, along the iconic Kartavya Path in New Delhi. These modern office complexes will house several critical central ministries, enhancing administrative coordination and streamlining government operations.
The Kartavya Bhawan complex will serve as the new workspace for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of MSME, and the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Following the inauguration, PM Modi is expected to address a public gathering at around 6:30 PM.
Kartavya Bhawan Inauguration Reflects Vision for Efficient Governance
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, addressed the media during a curtain raiser event and explained the larger vision behind this infrastructural upgrade. He said that the older ministry buildings were scattered, poorly planned, and technologically outdated. In contrast, the Kartavya Bhawans are part of the comprehensive Central Vista Redevelopment Project, aimed at making government functioning more efficient and cohesive.
The Kartavya Bhawan complex features:
- 2 basements, 1 ground floor, and 6 upper floors
- 850 office rooms across all three buildings
- Parking for 600 vehicles
Ministries by Floor:
- 1st Floor – Ministry of Petroleum
- 2nd Floor – Ministry of MSME and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
- 3rd Floor – Ministry of External Affairs
- 4th, 5th, 6th Floors – Ministry of Home Affairs
- 5th Floor – Home Minister’s Office
- 6th Floor – Intelligence Bureau
State-of-the-Art Security and Sustainability Measures
Security has been given top priority in the new Kartavya Bhawan buildings. The entire complex is:
- Under 24/7 surveillance by 700 CCTV cameras
- Equipped with modern security devices including:
- Flap barriers
- Metal detectors
- X-ray baggage scanners
- Vehicle undercarriage scanners
- Boom barriers and vehicle blockers
- Power-fenced perimeter wall
Access is restricted strictly to ID-authorised personnel, with monitoring handled by an Integrated Command and Control Center that oversees the full Central Vista zone.
The infrastructure is also eco-friendly, featuring:
- Solar panels and solar water heaters on rooftops
- Rainwater harvesting and waste-water treatment systems
- Construction using recycled wall and flooring materials
What Is the Central Vista Redevelopment Project?
The Central Vista is the ceremonial heart of Indian democracy, stretching from Rashtrapati Bhavan to Princess Park near India Gate. It encompasses historically significant structures such as:
- Parliament House
- North and South Blocks
- Vice President’s Residence
- National Museum
- National Archives
The ongoing Central Vista Redevelopment Project is one of the most ambitious infrastructure transformations in India’s history. It aims to create a secure, sustainable, and technologically advanced administrative hub for the Indian government.
