PNG Connections Reach 1.5 Crore, LPG Surges to 33 Crore: Hardeep Singh Puri in Lok Sabha

Published on

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday informed the Lok Sabha that India has made significant progress in expanding access to clean energy, with a sharp rise in PNG and LPG connections across the country.

PNG Connections See Six-Fold Growth Since 2014

Replying to a question in Parliament, the minister stated that Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections have increased from 25 lakh in 2014 to 1.5 crore in 2024, marking a six-fold growth in a decade.

LPG Connections More Than Doubled

Puri also revealed that LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) connections have surged from 14 crore in 2014 to 33 crore today. He credited government schemes and policy reforms for this widespread coverage, bringing clean cooking fuel to households across both urban and rural India.

Focus on Energy Transition

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to a multi-fuel energy transition, including CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), PNG, and biogas. He highlighted India’s progress in biogas production, reflecting efforts to diversify energy sources and promote sustainability.

National Clean Energy Expansion

“Almost the entire country is now covered by clean energy infrastructure,” Puri said, adding that the push for alternative energy has helped improve access, affordability, and environmental outcomes.
