The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, presented the SCOPE Eminence Awards 2022-23 in New Delhi today (August 29, 2025). While addressing the gathering, the President praised the remarkable contributions of Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) in India’s journey of growth and development. She said that Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) continue to be a strong pillar of the nation, contributing not only economically but also socially, environmentally, and technologically.

SCOPE Eminence Awards celebrate Public Sector contribution

The President lauded SCOPE (Standing Conference of Public Enterprises) for instituting the Eminence Awards to recognise excellence in areas such as sustainable development, corporate governance, CSR, and innovation. She said these awards reflect a holistic approach towards national progress, acknowledging the multi-dimensional role of PSEs in driving growth.

Public Sector Enterprises: Catalysts of growth and prosperity

Highlighting the historic role of the Public Sector since independence, President Murmu said PSEs have been instrumental in industrialisation, infrastructure creation, social upliftment, and balanced regional development. Over the years, while the expectations of government and society have evolved, Public Sector Enterprises have consistently delivered in line with India’s economic and national priorities.

She described PSEs as “catalysts of growth and pillars of prosperity for the nation and its people.” Their commitment to inclusivity, ethics, and transparency, she said, makes them models of good governance.

CPSEs driving Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India

The President appreciated CPSEs for their crucial role in national campaigns such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India. Citing the example of Operation Sindoor, she said that the indigenous Air Defence Control and Reporting System Akashteer demonstrated India’s technological prowess, with active contribution from Public Sector Enterprises.

She emphasised that such achievements showcase the self-reliant innovation in national security and underline India’s growing technological independence.

CPSEs central to vision of Developed India by 2047

Looking ahead, President Murmu said that CPSEs will play an important role in fulfilling the national vision of transforming India into a Developed Nation by 2047. She called on enterprises to align their decisions with nation-building, act with ethics, and remain rooted in sensitivity and social service.

She noted that CPSEs have been vital across key areas like agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, and services, and will remain central in tackling future challenges.
