Ahmedabad: Australian stand-in captain Steve Smith has praised his players and support staff after qualifying for the 2023  ICC World Test Championship 2023 final in June. Australia qualified for the final of this year’s ICC Test World Cup after defeating India in the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Indore.

They are the dominant team in the World Test Championship, having won 11 out of 18 matches. Australia, currently on top with 68.52% of the  ICC World Test Championship points, will remain on top regardless of the outcome of the rest of the tournament. The veteran batsman, who stood in for Australia’s perennial skipper Pat Cummins in the third Test, praised his team for making it to the WTC final.

“To qualify for our first ever ICC World Test Final is hugely rewarding. This has been our aim for a long time. The level of cricket we have played for over the years deserves recognition and to finish as World Test Champions It’s a huge reward for anyone,” Smith told the ICC

“Also, being able to play the final at the WTC before the Ashes means it will be a great opportunity for fans to extend their stay and come to the Oval to see us. Here in India, we want to continue that momentum. Still There’s an experiment I’m thinking about,” he added.

In the post-match press conference, Smith praised his team for their comeback in the third Test after losing the series 2-0. “Especially the disappointment of the previous game, the missed opportunities, and knowing after the second Test that we couldn’t really win the series has always been on the bucket list for some of us,” he said.

Now, regular captain Pat Cummins stays stays in home, Steve Smith may lead in Ahmedabad Test too. Smith led their brilliant turnaround in Indore where they beat India by 9 wickets to secure their place in the final of the World Test Championship 2023 (WTC).
