Uttarakhand Cloudburst in Chamoli’s Tharali Tehsil Causes Widespread Destruction

Published on

Heavy rainfall triggered a Uttarakhand cloudburst in Chamoli district late last night, causing severe destruction in Tharali tehsil. Debris rushed into residential houses, shops, and government premises, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) residence and the tehsil office, leaving the region in turmoil.

Authorities fear that a young woman may be trapped under the debris, as rescue teams intensify their operations. Several areas including Tharali tehsil headquarters, Kedarbagarh, Radibagarh, and Chepado have been badly affected by continuous downpours.

Relief Operations Underway After Uttarakhand Cloudburst

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a social media post, assured that the district administration, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and police have swiftly reached the site and are carrying out rescue and relief efforts. The CM said he is in constant touch with officials and is personally monitoring the evolving situation, while also praying for the safety of all residents.

Schools Shut as Safety Measure in Affected Region

In view of the disaster, the district administration has ordered a closure of all schools and anganwadi centers up to Class 12 in Tharali tehsil. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students as heavy rains continue to lash the region.

Meteorological Department Issues Orange Alert

The Meteorological Department has sounded an orange alert warning of very heavy rainfall across multiple districts including Dehradun, Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. Warnings of further intense downpours have also been issued for other parts of Uttarakhand.

Government on High Alert Amid Ongoing Rainfall

With persistent heavy rain across the state, the administration remains on high alert to tackle potential landslides, flash floods, and further damage in vulnerable areas. Rescue teams have been deployed in full strength to ensure quick evacuation and assistance to the affected population.
