Uttarakhand Launches India’s First Yoga Policy to Become Global Wellness Hub

Published on

In a significant development on International Yoga Day, Uttarakhand became the first state in India to launch a dedicated Yoga Policy, aiming to transform itself into a global hub for yoga, meditation, and wellness.

Uttarakhand Aims to Become Global Yoga Capital

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, addressing the official program in Bhararisain, Gairsain—the summer capital of Uttarakhand—announced the launch of the policy. He stated that the objective is to institutionalize and expand yoga infrastructure, making Uttarakhand a world leader in traditional wellness practices.

Financial Support for Yoga and Meditation Centres

To encourage entrepreneurship in the wellness sector, Dhami announced that the government will offer subsidies of up to ₹20 lakh for setting up yoga and meditation centres in the state. This move is expected to attract both national and international investments in the wellness tourism sector.

The policy also provides for grants of up to ₹10 lakh to support research in yoga, meditation, and naturopathy. The government aims to bridge ancient wisdom with modern science, promoting evidence-based wellness practices.

Dhami announced that five new yoga hubs will be developed across the state by 2030, further boosting its wellness infrastructure and employment opportunities.

The Chief Minister also revealed that by March 2026, yoga services will be made available in all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres in the state. This step aligns with the broader goal of integrating yoga into preventive and primary healthcare.
