WATCH: India Developing ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ Defence Shield Like Iron Dome: CDS General Anil Chauhan

Published on

New Delhi: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Monday announced that India is developing its own air defence system, named ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, which will function as both a shield and a sword.

Speaking at ‘RAN SAMWAD-2025’, a two-day Tri-Service dialogue on war, warfare, and warfighting at the Army War College in Madhya Pradesh, General Chauhan said the indigenous defence shield will protect strategic, civilian, and nationally important sites across the country.

He explained that the system will include advanced infrastructure and processes for detection, acquisition, and neutralisation of enemy air vectors, with the deployment of both soft-kill and hard-kill technologies.

Lessons from Operation Sindoor

General Chauhan referred to Operation Sindoor as an example of modern conflict that provided vital lessons. “Several of those lessons have already been implemented, while others are in progress,” he noted.

Reiterating India’s stance, he said, “India is a peace-loving nation, but peace without power is utopian,” stressing the importance of deterrence alongside diplomacy.

Future warfare: Technology over strategy

Highlighting the rapid changes in military doctrine, General Chauhan underlined that future battlefields will not recognise service boundaries and will demand swift, joint responses across domains.

He emphasized the role of Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence, integrated logistics, and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber, and Quantum technologies to boost India’s operational readiness.
