Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar and West Bengal on 22nd August 2025 to unveil and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹18,000 crore. The projects span key sectors such as road, rail, power, urban infrastructure, health, and water supply.
In Bihar, projects worth around ₹13,000 crore will be inaugurated at Gaya, while in Kolkata, the Prime Minister will launch metro and infrastructure projects worth more than ₹5,200 crore.
PM Modi Inaugurates Aunta–Simaria Bridge to Boost Connectivity in Bihar
A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the Aunta–Simaria Bridge on the River Ganga, a six-lane project constructed at a cost of over ₹1,870 crore. The 8.15 km long bridge will reduce the travel distance of heavy vehicles by more than 100 km, improving connectivity between North and South Bihar.
The bridge will also enhance access to Simaria Dham, a significant pilgrimage site, and provide an alternative to the dilapidated Rajendra Setu, which has long forced rerouting of heavy traffic. Along with this, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section of NH-31 worth nearly ₹1,900 crore, further strengthening road infrastructure.
PM Modi Inaugurates Buxar Thermal Power Plant and Cancer Hospital
To boost the power sector, the Buxar Thermal Power Plant (660×1 MW), worth about ₹6,880 crore, will be inaugurated. This will substantially increase power generation capacity and ensure energy security for Bihar and neighboring regions.
On the healthcare front, the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Muzaffarpur will be inaugurated, offering advanced and affordable cancer treatment with modern facilities such as OPD, IPD wards, ICUs, labs, and operation theatres. This will reduce the need for patients to travel outside Bihar for cancer treatment.
PM Modi to Flag Off Amrit Bharat Express and Buddhist Circuit Train
Rail connectivity in Bihar will receive a major boost with the flagging off of two new trains. The Amrit Bharat Express between Gaya and Delhi will enhance passenger comfort with modern amenities, while the Buddhist Circuit Train between Vaishali and Koderma will promote religious tourism across Buddhist heritage sites.
In addition, Grih Pravesh will be held for over 16,000 beneficiaries under PMAY-Gramin and PMAY-Urban schemes, symbolizing the government’s efforts to provide affordable housing for all.
PM Modi Inaugurates Metro and Road Projects in Kolkata
In West Bengal, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a 13.61 km long metro network in Kolkata, including the Noapara–Jai Hind Bimanbandar service, the Sealdah–Esplanade route, and the Beleghata–Hemanta Mukhopadhyay corridor. These new metro services will drastically reduce travel time, strengthen airport connectivity, and ease traffic in the IT hub and other busy areas of the city.
He will also lay the foundation stone for a six-lane Kona Expressway project worth over ₹1,200 crore, aimed at decongesting traffic and boosting trade and commerce between Howrah, rural areas, and Kolkata.
