Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday extended his greetings to citizens on the occasion of Govardhan Puja and described the festival as a symbol of India’s agrarian economy. Speaking in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister emphasized that Govardhan Puja reflects the deep cultural and economic significance of cows and their progeny in an agricultural nation like India.
Govardhan Puja and India’s Agricultural Roots
“I am fortunate to have the opportunity to worship cows and serve them here this morning,” Adityanath said while speaking to ANI. “The Indian cattle have been the foundation of India’s prosperity.” He added that under the inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several innovative initiatives such as producing bio-compost and ethanol from cow dung have been launched under the Govardhan Yojana to conserve and promote cattle.
Government Schemes Supporting Cattle and Farmers
Yogi Adityanath noted that Uttar Pradesh has around 16 lakh cattle, and the state government has introduced three major schemes to support cattle owners and improve rural livelihoods.

The Chief Minister said these programs have empowered thousands of farmers and families by providing both economic support and nutritional benefits.
Innovation Under the Govardhan Scheme
He added that the Govardhan Scheme has helped farmers earn additional income through the sale of cow dung used to produce compressed biogas and ethanol. “The farmer, the food provider, has moved towards prosperity, and the Govardhan Scheme is playing a crucial role in this transformation,” he said.
