New Delhi: The Government of India on January 14, 2026, issued a fresh advisory stating that Indian nationals advised to leave Iran should make arrangements to exit the country at the earliest through all available means, including commercial flight services. The advisory comes in light of the rapidly evolving situation in Iran and follows an earlier government notice released on January 5, 2025. The guidance applies to Indian students, pilgrims, business professionals, and tourists who are currently present in the country.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized that the advisory is precautionary and aims to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad. Authorities have urged individuals to remain vigilant and proactive in planning their departure while transport options remain accessible.
Indian Nationals Advised to Leave Iran Amid Security Concerns
Reiterating its earlier position, the government has once again cautioned all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) residing or traveling in Iran to exercise heightened alertness. Indians have been advised to stay away from areas witnessing protests, demonstrations, or any form of civil unrest and to closely follow updates from local media sources.

The advisory also stresses the importance of maintaining regular communication with the Indian Embassy in Iran. Officials noted that staying informed and connected is critical as the situation continues to develop.

To facilitate assistance, the Indian Embassy in Iran has circulated emergency contact helpline numbers along with an official email address for immediate support. Indian nationals facing difficulties or requiring guidance have been encouraged to reach out to the Embassy without delay.
The government further advised all Indians to keep essential travel and immigration documents, including passports, visas, and identity papers, easily accessible at all times. This measure is intended to prevent delays or complications during travel or in case of emergency evacuation.
Indian Nationals Advised to Leave Iran Should Register With Embassy
As part of its safety protocol, the MEA has requested all Indian citizens who have not yet registered with the Indian Embassy in Iran to do so immediately through the official MEA registration portal. In situations where internet services may be disrupted within Iran, families in India have been asked to assist with the registration process on behalf of their relatives.
Officials stated that accurate registration data will help authorities provide timely assistance and coordinate support efforts more effectively if the situation worsens.

The advisory underscores the government’s continued focus on safeguarding Indian citizens overseas during periods of uncertainty.
