New Delhi: PM Modi tribute to Parbati Giri marked the birth centenary of the freedom fighter on Monday, with the Prime Minister recalling her courageous role in India’s struggle against colonial rule and her lifelong commitment to social service. Taking to social media platform X, Narendra Modi said Parbati Giri played a commendable role in the freedom movement and worked extensively in areas such as healthcare, women’s empowerment and cultural upliftment.

In his post, the Prime Minister paid homage to Parbati Giri, describing her passion for community service as noteworthy. He also shared excerpts from his recent remarks about her during his monthly radio address.

The Prime Minister noted that her contributions went beyond the freedom struggle and extended into nation-building after independence.

PM Modi had earlier referred to Parbati Giri during his December 28 episode of Mann Ki Baat, ahead of her birth centenary. He said she made significant contributions to the freedom movement and dedicated her life to uplifting the poor and marginalised.

During the broadcast, he reflected on the sacrifices made by freedom fighters across the country and emphasised the importance of remembering those who laid the foundation of independent India.

Parbati Giri Joined Quit India Movement at 16

Highlighting her early involvement in the national movement, the Prime Minister recalled that Parbati Giri joined the Quit India Movement at just 16 years of age. After independence, she devoted herself entirely to social welfare, particularly among tribal and underprivileged communities.
