  • The new packaging will debut in Delhi NCR from June 5, World Environment Day.
  • The pouch can naturally degrade in soil and leave no lasting plastic traces.

Noida: Mother Dairy has unveiled India’s first Mother Dairy degradable milk pouch, a breakthrough packaging innovation aimed at tackling plastic pollution. The new pouch will be introduced with the company’s popular Cow Milk variant in the Delhi NCR market from June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day.

The initiative marks a major step toward sustainable packaging in India’s dairy sector and reflects growing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste.

Mother Dairy Degradable Milk Pouch Uses New Technology

According to the company, the pouch is made using a unique degradable packaging technology that allows the material to transform into bioavailable wax when discarded in soil.

Over time, naturally occurring microbes break down the wax into natural elements, helping reduce long-term plastic accumulation in the environment.

Unlike conventional plastic packaging that can persist for centuries, the new pouch is designed to degrade naturally within a few years.

Why This Innovation Matters

India’s dairy industry distributes millions of milk packets every day, making packaging waste a major environmental challenge.

By introducing degradable milk pouches, Mother Dairy aims to reduce plastic pollution while maintaining product safety and quality. The company also confirmed that the new packaging will not lead to any increase in consumer milk prices.

Four Years of Research Behind the Project

Meenesh Shah described the launch as a significant milestone for the dairy sector, highlighting its potential to support a more sustainable future.

Meanwhile, Jayatheertha Chary said the innovation is the result of more than four years of research and development.

He noted that while the pouch remains recyclable, its key advantage is its ability to degrade into natural elements, helping eliminate plastic traces from the environment.

A New Benchmark for Sustainable Packaging

The launch strengthens Mother Dairy’s sustainability efforts and could encourage wider adoption of environmentally friendly packaging solutions across the food and beverage industry.

As consumers and businesses increasingly prioritize sustainability, the new degradable milk pouch may serve as a model for future packaging innovations aimed at reducing India’s plastic footprint.
