- BJP says the Ram Mandir donation theft case will be handled under the rule of law with speedy justice.
- The Faizabad Bar Association has resolved not to represent the eight accused and announced disciplinary action against members who violate the decision.
- The controversy has triggered political debate, with BJP criticizing opposition parties over their stance on the accused.
NEW DELHI: The Ram Mandir donation theft case has intensified after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the accused are facing both legal proceedings and social boycott. The party cited the Faizabad Bar Association’s decision not to represent the eight accused arrested in the alleged embezzlement of donations collected at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The resolution comes as the accused remain in judicial custody until June 29. BJP leaders maintained that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to ensure speedy justice and exemplary punishment if the allegations are proven in court.
Ram Mandir Donation Theft Case: BJP Supports Rule of Law
BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari described the Bar Association’s resolution as a reflection of public sentiment.
According to Bhandari, those accused of betraying the faith of devotees are facing not only criminal proceedings but also rejection by society. He said the development sends a strong message about accountability in matters involving religious institutions.
He also alleged that several opposition parties have historically supported individuals accused in sensitive cases for political reasons. These remarks represent the BJP’s political position and have not been independently verified.
Faizabad Bar Association Refuses to Defend Accused
The Faizabad Bar Association passed its resolution during a general body meeting on Monday.
The association decided that none of its members would appear on behalf of the eight accused in the alleged temple donation embezzlement case. It also resolved that any lawyer violating the decision could face a penalty of ₹5 lakh under the association’s internal rules.
The decision followed discussions held a day earlier, when several lawyers publicly stated that they would not defend the accused because their religious sentiments had been hurt by the alleged theft.
Eight Arrested in Alleged Temple Donation Embezzlement
Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft case:
- Avinash Shukla
- Anukalp Mishra
- Lav Kush Mishra
- Manish Kumar Yadav
- Karunesh Pandey
- Ram Shankar Mishra
- Subhash Srivastava
- Ramashankar alias Tinnu Yadav
Investigators allege that the accused were involved in counting cash and valuables donated by devotees at the Ram Temple and are suspected of embezzling part of those offerings.
A court remanded all eight accused to judicial custody until June 29 while the investigation continues.
BJP Reiterates Speedy Justice
BJP spokesperson Tuhin Sinha said the party understands the public anger surrounding the allegations but stressed that the matter will proceed strictly under the law.
He reiterated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured that anyone found guilty will receive exemplary punishment while ensuring due legal process.

Lawyers Raise Additional Demands
During the Bar Association meeting, some lawyers also demanded that Champat Rai, Anil Mishra and Gopal Rao—who are associated with temple management but are not named as accused in the FIR—leave Ayodhya.
Some members warned of protests, including calls to blockade the city if their demands were not met. There has been no official response from the individuals named regarding these demands.
Investigation Continues Amid Political Debate
The alleged embezzlement has sparked widespread political reactions because it involves donations made by devotees at one of India’s most prominent religious sites.
Legal experts note that while professional bodies may express collective opinions, every accused person retains constitutional rights under Indian law, including access to legal representation. The criminal investigation will ultimately determine whether the allegations are substantiated.
The Ram Mandir donation theft case has evolved beyond a criminal investigation into a politically and socially significant issue. While the BJP has backed both legal action and the public sentiment reflected in the Bar Association’s resolution, the investigation remains ongoing and the allegations have yet to be tested in court. The next developments will depend on the findings of investigators, judicial proceedings, and any official statements from the temple trust or the Uttar Pradesh government.
