- Do Not Travel due to terrorism and civil unrest.

2. India–Pakistan Border
- Do Not Travel due to risk of armed conflict.
- Only official border crossing: Attari–Wagah. Proper visas are mandatory.
3. Central and Eastern India
- Do Not Travel to rural areas of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha due to Naxalite insurgency.
4. Manipur
- Do Not Travel due to ongoing ethnic violence and attacks on government personnel.
5. Northeastern States
- Reconsider Travel due to terror threats and insurgent activity in states like Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and remote areas outside state capitals.
- US government personnel require special authorization to visit these regions.
General Safety & Legal Tips:
- Terror Threats: Attacks may occur without warning at tourist locations, markets, transportation hubs, and government buildings.
- Women Travelers: Advised not to travel alone and to review special safety guidelines.
- Immigration Rules: Violations may result in fines or imprisonment. E-visas are not valid for land entry.
- Satellite Phones: Possession is illegal and may lead to a $200,000 fine or up to 3 years in jail.
- Personal Security: Maintain vigilance and avoid high-risk areas.
- Emergency Plans: Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), review the Traveler’s Checklist, and keep emergency contacts updated.
