Indore has once again been crowned the cleanest city in India, marking its eighth consecutive win in the Central Government’s annual Swachh Survekshan Awards. The 2024-25 edition saw Surat claim second place, while Navi Mumbai secured the third position.

The prestigious awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held in New Delhi earlier today.

Cleanliness a Pillar of Viksit Bharat Vision

President Murmu, addressing the gathering, emphasized that cleanliness is integral to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat 2047.” She urged all citizens to contribute to making the country clean, healthy, and fully developed. She noted that cleanliness has always been deeply rooted in India’s cultural and spiritual traditions.

Cleanest Cities in Different Population Categories

In the category of cities with populations between 3 and 10 lakh, Noida emerged at the top, followed by Chandigarh and Mysore.
For cities with populations over 10 lakh, Ahmedabad was ranked the cleanest.

78 Awards Across Multiple Categories

A total of 78 awards were distributed across four main categories during the ceremony. The awards included recognition for Super Swachh League Cities and the top three cities in five different population brackets.

President Murmu also praised the symbolic significance of 2025 as a year reflecting both “cleanliness and faith,” underscoring the nation’s growing commitment to sanitation and hygiene.
