Two Killed in Lightning Strikes in Mayurbhanj District
Two people tragically lost their lives in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Rairangpur block of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Rakhi Mahanta (35), wife of Dilip Kumar Mahanta from Rakhanisahi village
- Manoj Mahanta (45) from Neuti village
Woman Dies While Harvesting Paddy
According to reports, Rakhi Mahanta was working in her field, harvesting paddy, when she was suddenly struck by lightning. Locals immediately rushed her to the Rairangpur Community Health Centre (CHC), but doctors declared her brought dead.
Following the incident, Rairangpur Town Police reached the site, conducted a preliminary investigation, and registered a case of unnatural death. The body was handed over to her family after the post-mortem.
Farmer Killed in Separate Lightning Strike
In another incident, Manoj Mahanta was hit by lightning while working on his farmland. He was immediately taken to Rairangpur CHC by his family members, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Bahalda Police registered a case and completed all necessary formalities before releasing the body to the family after autopsy.
These incidents underscore the dangers posed by lightning, particularly during the monsoon season, and highlight the need for increased public awareness and safety measures for people working in open fields.
